About Tech Funding Map

What this is

Tech Funding Map is a free, interactive map of startup funding rounds across Europe, North America, South America, Oceania, Africa and Asia. It puts the deals in one place, on a map, so you can see where the money is going without trawling through separate news sites and databases. Filter by region, stage and sector, or switch between pins, a heatmap and a hex grid.

11,657rounds
€496.9Bdisclosed funding

Covering the last 24 months of startup funding. Europe has the deepest coverage. North America, South America, Oceania, Africa and Asia are newer and thinner, built from news feeds and SEC filings rather than a curated dataset.

Data source

Most of the data (7,089 of 11,657 rounds) comes from the Tech.eu Funding Explorer, licensed under CC BY 4.0. Tech.eu converts every figure to EUR at the ECB reference rate on the date of the round. The full methodology is at funding.tech.eu/methodology.

The other 4568 rounds come from news feeds and newsletters (see below), to catch recent deals that may not be in the Tech.eu dataset yet. I convert those to EUR at approximate fixed rates. Publishers contributing right now: arcticstartup.com, bebeez.it, betakit.com, braziljournal.com, businessdesk.co.nz, contxto.com, dealflowit.niccolosanarico.com, disruptafrica.com, ecosistemastartup.com, elreferente.es, endpoints.news, entrackr.com, eu-startups.com, financialpost.com, fintech.global, fintechnews.ch, fintechnews.sg, frenchweb.fr, geekwire.com, inc42.com, latamlist.com, maddyness.com, medcitynews.com, neofeed.com.br, news.crunchbase.com, sec.gov, securityweek.com, sifted.eu, siliconangle.com, siliconcanals.com, smartcompany.com.au, startupdaily.net, startupi.com.br, tech.eu, techcabal.com, techcrunch.com, techfundingnews.com, techinafrica.com, techinasia.com, techmoran.com, technode.com, techstartups.com, techtrendske.co.ke, thebridge.jp, thecondia.com, thelogic.co, therecursive.com, uktech.news, valoraanalitik.com, ventureburn.com, venturesquare.net, weetracker.com, yourstory.com.

Supplementary sources

Tech.eu is the backbone, but it can lag the news. To catch deals sooner, I also pull rounds from the feeds and newsletters below, 130 publisher domains in total. When two sources report the same deal, I merge them and keep the Tech.eu record. Every round on the map links back to the article it came from.

An AI model (Claude Haiku) reads the headlines and articles and extracts the deal details, then the rounds are validated and de-duplicated. I only record a city when the article names one. Otherwise the pin sits at the country's main startup hub (London, San Francisco, Bengaluru and so on). Mistakes can slip through, so check the linked article before you rely on a figure.

Geocoding

The Tech.eu API gives a company's city and country but no coordinates, and the same goes for the news and SEC rows. I match city names to coordinates using cities.json (GeoNames data, CC BY 4.0). When a city doesn't match, the pin falls back to the country's main startup hub. US cities are matched using the state when one is known.

Who built this

I'm Dan Taylor, and I built Tech Funding Map. I do a bunch of things, but mostly web development, photography and PR.

It's a sibling to Tech Events Map, built for the same reason. Funding news is scattered across dozens of sites, each with its own format. I wanted the rounds on one map, so you can see at a glance where the money is moving.
